Just went to the Dayton Air Force Museum for the first time yesterday (it’s been 90 minutes from my house for 13 years.) Got there late, got soaked in the rain, had the whole family with me complaining about how much time I was spending taking photos. That said I like a lot of these and my only regret is not taking more.
For those of you who don’t follow the photography blog or haven’t seen my last couple posts I am going through a phase right now. I’m trying to get everything right in camera and just uploading the jpgs straight from the camera. This means everything isn’t perfect or even exactly how I would like it. But it does speed up my workflow considerably and motivates me to get out and shoot more.
I also took my Lubitel and shot ten frames on it. I will probably go through the raw files and editing them in SilverFX and uploading the scans from the Lubitel on a later Photography post.
Lastly if you want to see everything I shot yesterday save for a few family shots including multiple attempts at the same shot I’ve uploaded it all to my Flickr.

That place is so cool. We there a few years ago but no one believes me when I say its just as good as the Smithsonian.

I thought it was better than the Smithsonian actually. I went there when I visited the US in 2013. Visited the Udvar-Hazy location and while awesome, the Airforce museum just has a bit more room and some scenes set up for the planes and stuff. It's a nicer experience in general in my opinion. Also... F-117. I ran like a child when I spotted that one tucked away in the corner.

Some really nice ones in there. I do think some of them are too dark and a few of them would have been better in color perhaps.
I do love that museum though. I think I have about 800 pictures from that place as well.

Yeah, I’ve been in a f/8 and be there mood for a while but there was nowhere near enough light. These are all iso 1600 and most are at f/3.5 with a pretty slow shutter.
I shoot in raw+jpg so I’very got the option to go with a color shot later when I edit these. As for the blackbird I decided to go really dark with it on purpose. Every brighter shot made it dull and washed out. Going darker turns it into a black hole of a plane which is perfect considering it’s intended function.

The Smithsonian wishes it was this good. A couple months ago they opened a new building and moved all the experimental and presidential craft out. So worth another visit.

Thanks! I loved taking them but I only had two hours and I wasn’t spending as much time with the kids as I should have been so I put the camera away for a while. I can’t wait to see what I got off the Lubitel. I’ll make a more in depth post on photography once I get the Lubitel shots developed.

Cool. I’m picking up a bunch of film tomorrow that I dropped off the other day.

Cool, I wish I had somewhere to dropped off and pick up film. Best I can find is ship it off for $11 a roll +$2 to push it and $5 if I want prints. That and $6 to ship. I figure with my two pushed black and white rolls plus my color roll and getting prints for one roll I’m looking at $48 for three rolls. Alternatively I might buy a 120 reel for my tank and a bottle of rodinal for $20 and find detailed a used scanner for $20 and run it on virtual machine because used cheap scanners won’t run a modern OS.
